Microsoft will announce its next video games console within the next 12 months, indicating at an E3 2012 unveiling, VideoGamer is reporting.
The site has gathered information from a “high-ranking industry source at Crytek,” who also confirmed that a new instalment within the TimeSplitters franchise is in development for the next generation of consoles with the help of the CryEngine 3.
It’s thought the Crysis developer is currently using Microsoft’s DirectX 11 is as the basis for next generation development, but specifications for the new hardware are yet to be finalised. The new TimeSplitters title is claimed to have been shown in video form privately at E3 2011, which was held in Los Angeles earlier this month, and is already showing signs of visual improvement over current consoles.
Back in January Crytek boss Cevat Yerli confirmed the developer was discussing the possibility of TimeSplitters 4, with it now being six years since the release of TimeSplitters: Future Perfect.
