Remedy: We Don't Do Multiplayer Games

Monday, 1 Mar 2010 - 23:23PM

Online multiplayer; now a huge part of video games. You'll see many, many games offering the option to play with your friends, and the rest of the world through your console or PC.

However, one of the years biggest blockbusters, Alan Wake doesn't include that option. The reason? Developer Remedy Entertainment just 'doesn't do multiplayer games'

"We decided to do one thing well – the single player game – and not what other people do well." said Oskari Hakkinen, head of franchise development at Remedy in an interview with The Guardian.

"Remedy doesn't do multiplayer games. Its not that we don't have the know-how, but the effort involved would not have resulted in a compelling game for the player."

"Players have their favourite multiplayer games which they play regularly." he continued. "They are not going to play Alan Wake for the multiplayer; they will play to enjoy the story-driven and compelling single-player experience."

So in other words, don't expect a title that features multiplayer any time soon from Remedy. But why would you? Alan Wake releases on May 21. That alone should be enough for everyone.
