Nintendo are a company who are synonymous with making money. They hit the nail on the head with both the DS and the Wii, the phenomenal success of both left Nintendo being able to boast that they generated profits to the tune of $1.6 million per employee back in 2008.

Things aren't as rosy as they were though as they were last year, with Nintendo recording a loss of ¥25.2 billion ($288 million) for the three months ended June 2010, a massive slide from last year where they had a profit of  ¥42.4 billion on the balance sheets. Nintendo have blamed the slide into the red for the lower price of the DS and the appreciation of the yen.

Net recorded sales for Q1 were ¥188.6 billion ($2.1 billion), down from ¥253.5 billion last year, with an operating income of ¥23.3 billion ($266.7 million) which was down from ¥40.40 billion the year previous.

Nintendo are still forecasting a financial year profit of ¥200 billion, and with the Nintendo 3DS to launch in 2011, we don't doubt them.
