SCEA: 3D Exclusive Content In Three Or Four Years

Thursday, 6 May 2010 - 20:15PM

With Sony’s 3D televisions launching in the next few months, gaming with the third-dimension is almost here. The PlayStation 3 has received a Firmware update for the technology, and SCEA – Sony Computer Entertainment America for those who don’t know – believe that 3D exclusive content game titles could be around in the next three or four years.

What would 3D exclusive content mean for gamers? Well, it simply means that a product will only be available utilising the technology and not the traditional 2D view we’ve been used to for years now.

“The predictions for the amount of 3D TV’s that are going to be sold are pretty bullish,” said David Coombes, platform research manager at SCEA in a video interview with GamerLive, “so we could easily see 3D exclusive content within maybe three years, four years.”

We’ve tried out 3D gaming – last October to be exact – and sure, it’s great. But it also comes with a hefty price tag as most 3D enabled TV’s cost three times the amount of a normal plasma or LCD of today.
