Heavy Rain will bring emotion to consoles

Reality in videogames. It's been in the headlines many, many times. WIth the realistic storyline of Heavy Rain coming to the PlayStation 3 in 2010, more questions are going to be asked. A rape simulator called Rapelay was released in April?2009 in Japan and caused a huge stir. Though some articles were written in defence of the game saying that a murderous killing spree was a lot worse than rape.

David Cage had an interview with Eurogamer recently, and was asked if rape and paedophilia can be tackled in videogames. His response? Pretty solid;

"...If treated the right way and with the right approach, you can definitely talk about anything." said Cage.?"But would you ask this question to a writer? Can you write a book about anything? Yeah, sure, I can. It's the same thing for a movie director. Is there any topic that you never ever mention in your movies? Probably most directors would answer, "No, of course not, there's nothing - I can talk about anything." But to a game developer it still makes sense to ask this question, and I think that says a lot about where we are in this industry."

What's your view of rape, paedophilia and other real-life scenarios in videogames? Should it be allowed?

People need to accept that Video games, are not inferior to books and movies in the type of content that they can include. Games are still treated as something for kids, when there mostly not.
